Leading minds in translation services

Meet our talented and eminently experienced management team. See why The Masha Krupp Translation Group is the translator of choice in Ottawa and across the country.

Masha Krupp, President

Masha has built one of Canada’s leading translation firms without sacrificing quality, service or bottom line. Masha, a dynamic entrepreneur, founded MKTG in 1992 to offer superior, round-the-clock translation services at competitive rates. With a growing roster of government and industry clients, Masha has nurtured the company from its modest beginnings as a two-employee enterprise to the largest translation firm in Ottawa and among the top five in Canada. Masha combines an innate facility with languages—she grew up in a Russian-speaking household and translates an astonishing seven languages—with her desire to create a flourishing workplace of choice for her employees. Masha is well known in the community for her generosity, donating 10 to 15 percent of MKTG’s operating profits every year to local, national and international charities. In 2007, Masha’s business leadership and philanthropic spirit won her a spot on the list of Ottawa’s Top 50 People, compiled by Ottawa Life magazine.

Patricia Bétournay, Director of Official Languages

Patricia's dynamic and thorough approach to client service ensures that major accounts with the RCMP, Correctional Service, Transport Canada and Canada Revenue Agency are expertly managed day after day. With a Master's Degree in Russian from McGill, and specializations in French and German, Patricia began her career at MKTG in 1993 as a Russian-to-English translator and French revisor. Her attention to detail and superior leadership skills enabled her to rise rapidly through the ranks. Patricia also oversees training and development of translators and revisors.

Alex Krupp, Director of Human Resources and Operations

An MKTG veteran since 1993, Alex has worn many company hats over the years. He began as a Russian-to-English translator, then grew the company's renowned translation Research and Terminology Division during the 1990s. Now, Alex oversees all human resources issues, including staffing and recruitment both at home and overseas. His attention to detail has enabled him to flourish as both the company's Operations Manager, and its Information Technology Manager.

Jannet Soler, Manager of the Main Control Centre

Jannet has always thrived being near the centre of things. Her superior performance in support roles at MKTG's Control Centre ideally positioned her to take over recently as the Centre's manager. Jannet liaises with clients, assigns work, and ensures all finished documents are sent on time and on target to MKTG's more than 100 clients. Jannet's management duties include supervising document revisors and quality control staff and daily schedules. With a Master's Degree in Spanish Translation, Jannet also provides Spanish language instruction and translation through MKTG.

Karla Garcia, Manager of the CRA Control Centre

Karla has been at MKTG for just two years and has expertly managed the Control Centre for MKTG’s Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) client for more than half that time. Her main duties include assisting with client liaison, assigning work, managing document flow, and ensuring clients receive completed jobs before deadline. Karla manages the schedules of more than 50 translators, supervises six revisors and three administration staff. Her solid background in scheduling and managerial work has served her well at MKTG. With an honours degree in Spanish translation from the University of Ottawa—Karla is tri-lingual in English, Spanish and French—she is also one of MKTG’s Spanish language consultants.

Manon Duchesne Osborne, Manager CRA Quality Control

Manon joined MKTG in 2004 as a finalizer in the company’s Quality Control Centre. Since then, she has moved into a top managerial position, arriving at the office by 5:30 every morning and working until at least 4 p.m. Some days Manon oversees the quality control of 150,000 words. As Manon puts it, success in life requires confidence and an ability to deliver a 100 percent performance every day. Her diverse background in managerial and supervisory positions has served her well; she supervises all CRA Quality Control and data-entry staff and keeps in touch with translation status on an hourly basis to ensure every deadline is met.

Barry McSorley, Accountant

Barry, another cherished member of the MKTG team, is a Certified Management Accountant. In 2006 he officially achieved the rank of MKTG veteran, having joined the team in 1996. Barry works as the company's principal accountant, responsible for all financial matters, including payroll, timesheets, invoicing. He also assists in developing electronic financial models for MKTG's human resources personnel—when he isn’t busy cheering on his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs!

Beth Carson, Team Leader, French-to-English

Beth has put her keen eye to use at MKTG as a revisor since 1999; now, she heads the French-to-English translation team. A graduate of Carleton University's School of Journalism, Beth's career has included work in newspapers and radio, curriculum development and teaching. She has also worked as a consultant, a freelance writer and a communications director for various organizations. Beth has had a wide range of cross-cultural experiences, from spending seven years in the Arctic to multiple education-related trips to Africa, most recently to teach English-as-a-second-language workshops. Beth and her husband co-founded a Canadian charity, Education without Boundaries, to provide needy African children with primary literacy education.
